This project explores the unspeakable visions and imaginations of black women. Alice Walker originally examined this subject in the essay, “In Search of Our Mother’s Gardens,” the title essay from her seminal collection. Much like Walker, Cardwell looks to her mother for the origin of her poetry, however her writing and research began after her mother’s death. This presentation will focus specifically on Cardwell’s recent essay, “Kara Walker and the Black Imagination”.
This event is organized by the Africana Studies FIG. Please contact Jill Richardson or Kelly Secovnie (English) for more information about this event or FIG.
