Description
Learn about The Children of the People: writings by and about CUNY students on race and social justice (2022), co-edited by Rose M. Kim, Grace M. Cho, and Robin McGinty, a volume of 30+ personal narratives on public higher education by former and present CUNY students, some now faculty and staff.   The discussion will be led by Professor Deborah Gambs, who has assigned parts of the book in her sociology courses, and will include co-editor, Professor Rose M. Kim, and other authors. In this wide-ranging volume, contributors question the notion of meritocracy in a society riven by inequalities of race, class, gender, and nativism, and speak to the importance of the traditional liberal arts’ mission to cultivate critical analysis, self-reflection, and broader civic engagement.
