We love when our students participate in lively class discussions in our face-to-face classes. Unfortunately, that is not easy to recreate online. Blackboard discussion forums are mostly sterile environments where the user experience (students’ and professors’) is not on par with the progress made elsewhere on the web. Come and learn the freedom and creativity OpenLab offers while building a community and consistently engaging students in lively discussions. We will demonstrate how to create a discussion forum and how students see the forum and interact in OpenLab. We will also share examples of discussion forums in OpenLab classes. Finally, the workshop will include a hands-on activity where participants can practice posting on the forum.
