January 22nd marked the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade (1973), establishing the legal right to an abortion. As we enter 2020, some 47 years later, we find ourselves confronting an onslaught of state legislation against women’s reproductive rights, facing a conservative majority Supreme Court that many fear will overturn Roe, and grappling with a current White House administration that has consistently worked to regulate or restrict abortion and access to contraceptives since taking office. Join the Women’s Studies Project as we kick off the New Year with a discussion of this past year’s legislation restricting reproductive rights, what we can expect in 2020, and how it impacts all of us.

Part of the Women’s Studies Project (WSP) FIG, a community of BMCC faculty and staff who teach, research, or administer in the field of women’s/gender studies – a complex discipline that draws participants from fields such as the humanities, sciences, social sciences, mathematics, business management, and so forth. WSP communicates across CUNY campuses to discuss and plan Women’s Studies at the university level.
