Description
This presentation aims to showcase the main higher education access policies implemented in Brazil over the past 20 years, focusing on their impact on the transformation of universities and the trajectories of first-generation students. The analysis also highlights how these policies are connected to global processes of educational commodification, as well as movements that seek to challenge the elitism and exclusivity of universities, particularly in contexts marked by deep racial and social inequalities.

Dr. Milena Mateuzi Carmo holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil) and is a collaborating researcher in the Graduate Program in Human and Social Sciences (PPGCHS) at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC). She is currently undertaking a postdoctoral research exchange at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York (BMCC-CUNY). Her experience includes teaching and research on topics related to violence, intersectionality, social movements, and higher education.
