Start of the semester have you stressed? Come learn about the Library’s labyrinth as a possibility for respite, contemplation, and a few mindful moments. Matt Cook, a faculty member and librarian from the University of Oklahoma, will introduce the Sparq Labyrinth and share his research on the labyrinth in academic libraries. Matt designed this projectable labyrinth, which will be installed at BMCC, complementing and building on the recent Mindfulness across the Curriculum: Exploring the Role of Contemplative Practices in Teaching and Learning project lead by Lesley Rennis and Precious Sellars-Mulhern. In our increasingly fast-paced and stressful environment, it is important that we provide space to step back, slow down, and reflect. As a contemplative activity, walking the labyrinth can reduce stress and improve focus, which will be helpful for students in both their academic studies and on the job, as well as for staff and faculty. We’ll end with time to walk the labyrinth.
