Description
In this workshop, we will discuss how speaking and listening asynchronously, through activities such as student audio assignments and instructor audio feedback on student assignments, can support connection and care in the classroom. If we consider what it means to listen – and to express ourselves through speaking – we get to the core of what any class can gain from incorporating audio assignments. When students to use their faculties of speech to explain the concepts and texts that they are learning about in their courses, or to interview their family, friends and peers, students tap into their inherent abilities to express themselves and think through concepts in real time.
Thinking about incorporating audio in the classroom can sometimes seem daunting, but there are simple tools that can facilitate this type of communication, including tools within Brightspace. During our hour together, we’ll discuss our experiences using audio in the classroom, consider how all kinds of disciplines can incorporate audio into their classrooms, and see examples of the tools that can support these activities.
