Did you know that less than 13% of Wikipedia contributors are female? While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect is not: content is skewed by the lack of female participation. Join us to help make Wikipedia (and the internet more broadly) a better, more inclusive space. In collaboration with the Wikimedia NYC chapter, BMCC will host a Wikipedia Women’s History Edit-a-thon.
At the edit-a-thon we will provide assistance with creating and editing in Wikipedia and increase access to scholarship using sources provided by our library. Together we can correct the omission of information in areas that remain underrepresented in Wikipedia. Participants can come and go as they wish.
For more information, please contact Brianne Waychoff.
This event is also part of BMCC Open Teaching Week.
