Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is an approach to fostering cross-cultural experiences for students. In COIL courses, students at colleges or universities in different parts of the world work together on common assignments, activities, and projects, which may span a few weeks or an entire semester. All or most of the interaction takes place using digital technology such as online discussion boards, shared blogs and wikis, and web conferencing. COIL projects can take many forms and span all disciplines.
CETLS has partnered with BMCC’s offices of Experiential Learning and Study Abroad and E-Learning to offer a semester-long seminar for faculty interested in developing COIL courses. The seminar was launched in Spring 2019 and will be offered each spring semester.
